Be Still . . .

"Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.
(Ezekiel 12:2 (NIV))
When these words were recorded by Ezekiel, God had already allowed the Babylonians to carry off most of the citizens of Israel into exile for their rebellious nature. Even in exile, they refused to repent. They clung to their sinful nature not realizing that it was this very nature that had led them to their current state. They were rebelling against what God had called them to do, and sadly, they thought that they were doing what He asked of them. They had stopped following God's Word and had started following their own traditions and sinful natures all while claiming that what they were doing was God's will.
They had twisted God's Word for their own selfish desires!
Do you know of anyone who does that? Do you see people in positions of authority who are doing that? Do you see people in positions of authority completely ignoring God's Word?
I was not alive when Ezekiel recorded these words, but I do know what I see today.
What do you see?
Is society rebellious toward God? Is the world rebellious toward God?
We may not have been taken off into captivity, into exile, but we are in a spiritual captivity. We are being held captive by the powers of darkness in this sinful, fallen world. For those who profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, we see those who are being held captive. We see the evil. We see the wars and rumors of wars. We see nation rising against nation and kingdom against kingdom, yet, do we truly understand the complete ramifications of what we are seeing?
God spoke to Ezekiel in the midst of the exile. He did not speak to Ezekiel before the exile. He spoke to Ezekiel after they still refused to repent. They had become comfortable in their rebellion!
Take a look around at the world. Are people comfortable in their rebellion?
If you profess a faith in Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, we must recognize the times. We must recognize the season that a rebellious people have created and ask ourselves one very important question.
Is this true once again?
