Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
(Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV))
When things are going good, where do you turn?
What about when things are going bad?
Do you instinctively turn to the same person, or do you give yourself the credit when things are going good? Is your faith in Jesus only based on His ability to fix your problems or are you fully devoted to Him in both the good and the bad?
Think about that for a moment and then let's take a look back to the events of September 11 several years ago. After the planes hit their targets, the churches filled up with people praying. They were turning to the Lord for help, but how many of these people had actually turned to the Lord in praise before these events happened?
We know that things will get far worse than those events for those who live through the times of the end. We are seeing many things beginning to come to pass, but they are nothing compared to what will transpire. Are you prepared? Will you turn to the Lord if you face what we are told will come to pass?
I want to let you in on a little secret about human nature!
We will probably continue to respond in the same manner that we are currently responding in. In other words, if you are ignoring the Lord now, then you will not truthfully turn to Him in times of trouble. It will not be ingrained as part of your character, as part of you nature. If, however, you make a habit of turning to the Lord each and every day, then that habit will be used instinctively when times of trouble do come.
We must train ourselves to look to the Lord!
It is a decision that we must make each and every moment of each and every day.
We must turn to the Lord as our armor.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
(Ephesians 6:10-17 (NIV))
And, there is one more thing that we must do!
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people.
(Ephesians 6:18 (NIV))
Are you turning to the Lord?
