It's been a while since I did any cross-stitch. I think I managed a Mouseloft kit during a couple of naps last summer, but nothing much otherwise. And I have my Janlynn Olde Worlde map pattern still to complete.
In the meantime, as part of the general crafting reorganising, I've been turning out my cross-stitch boxes and sorting through the many many kits I've collected over the years. Quite a lot are from the magazines (subscriptions are a good way to quickly build a collection), but some are from impulse purchases while queuing in Hobbycraft. Or deliberate purchases.
Either way, they accumulate. As do the completed kits, because of course I don't just toss the patterns once I've made the kit. I usually have lots of the threads left, and I might want to make it again. I haven't yet, but I might. You never know.
But they take up quite a bit of space, all these completed kits. I have, finally, found the solution: a photo album. One of the slip-in variety. For these mini kits, a 6x4" album is the perfect size. Then all it took was a bit of time to sort the kits into the album, and now the kits don't take up nearly as much room as they used to. Now they fit on the shelf with the folders containing all my other cross-stitch patterns.
Which means I have to turn my attention to my never-ending project. Unless I get distracted by something else first.
I last stitched the Olde Worlde map about three years ago, before we moved. I'd been making good progress: the lockdowns were very helpful in that regard. And then I had distractions. It doesn't help that I have it stretched out on a frame which ought to be attached to a stand, not balanced across my knees. It isn't very convenient, if I'm honest. Never has been. I probably ought to switch to a small hoop and put up with the ironing I'll have to do when I'm done. It's probably going to have curly edges anyway.
I've managed to do a little, recently. It's slow going, but I'm nearly ready to turn the pattern over for the bottom right corner. One day, I'm sure, I will finish this.
