EVERYWHERE
have basically
been taught
NOT
to get along
I don't actually know
ALL the people
but cultures
brainwash
their masses
differently
and we are all brainwashed
in truth
we are all the same
just human bodies
of different genders
shapes and sizes
without the beliefs
there would be no reason
to hate each other
assuming we were all just standing around
without any MASTER haters
telling us what was wrong with the person
next to us
because EVERYTHING
is basically taught
everything you think
came from somewhere
someone
and even if you think what you believe
came from you
mmmmm
I seriously doubt it
CONDITIONING
begins the second you emerge
from your mom
you are immediately labeled
female
or
male
and the brainwashing begins
as everyone around you
everyone who loves
or hates you
knows what your life will be like
based on your gender alone
so you've already lost
your ability to think for yourself
and that's before the cord has even been cut
it doesn't matter that you never were
a blank slate
it doesn't matter that you came here
with a personality
already inside of you
because the culture you are born into
will beat it out of you
force you to obey
drill lies into your head
steal your creativity
label you
and cause incredible harm
physically and mentally
so that you become an upstanding
part of the brainwashed community
or else you'll be labeled something else
and thrown out
all for the good of everyone else
you cannot be accepted
as you truly are
because others
may catch that freedom
and think for yourself
disease
and then all hell would break loose
so you are vilified
or disregarded entirely
each country does this in its own way
to the point of killing those who are different
or allowing violence against females
and minorities
just for fun
and to make sure that the males in charge
never lose their power over others
and people in many counties
are taught to dislike people in countries
that are not their own
or at least be suspicious of them
I mean everyone hates America
right
at least
that's what I've always been told
I don't know exactly what we did
but all those other people
were told something about us
to make them hate us
I mean the French are cold
rude
and all the rest
but when I was in Paris
a couple of times
I found them to be friendly
kind
and generous
and when I was there I talked with
a lot of people from all over the world
and the things they said about
America
kind of surprised me
so many believed they would be shot to death
if they came here
and the weird part was
that they didn't believe me
when I said that wasn't true
their fear of being shot to death
and their belief
that everyone of us carried a gun
was so deeply ingrained
that they would never visit
the one family who did vacation in America
said the middle of the country
was flat and boring
but they were afraid
the much of time they were here
we live our beliefs
they're all we have
we base our decisions
on what we supposedly know
but I'm not sure about what we know
I'm not sure about what's real
and what we've been led to believe
we all have opinions
and beliefs about everything
it's how we make our way through life
but what if the things we believe
aren't real
aren't true
what if they're things
someone else wants us to believe
for their own gain
I am not a word traveler
I've been to Paris twice
and Italy once
and that's it
but while there
I met people from everywhere
and it was a revelation
it was wonderful
and fun
and in meeting all of them
whether on a bus
or on the street
I understood what it was like to live in a
closed culture
just living in America
cut off from the rest of the world
and let's face it
America
is weird
that whole north and south thing
the city vs country thing
it's as if we are a bunch of different cultures
stuck together
against our will
we are so different from each other
so divided
by the things we believe
which might not be true at all
but from birth
we were given those beliefs
that hatred
the things people believe
about others
has become part of people
that resentment
and rage
is real
and I'm not sure
anything can be done
to get rid of it
and it's so ridiculous
hatred
taught
to people
on purpose
handed down
from one generation
to another
never knowing anything else
constantly reinforced by those in charge
kind of like saying that
peace is only possible
when all the people you were taught to hate
are dead
and one more thing
Chicago
has a reputation
for being friendly
I mean everyone
actors
musicians
visitors
everyone will tell you that
Sinatra
sang about it
poetry is written about it
but having lived here
my entire life
how would I know that
I don't know what friendly
as opposed to unfriendly means
in that context
I have nothing to compare it with
rude people are everywhere
but Chicagoan's
we will help you
warn you
tell you where things are
where not to go
offer to take a family picture for you
when you're standing in front of The Bean
and smile at you
isn't that what you're supposed to do
I was conditioned to do that
it's second nature to me
it's a knee jerk reaction
it's part of me
I DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
and that's what I'm trying to say
how can we change things in others
when it's simply what they have become
I was conditioned to be a Chicagoan
I was conditioned to be an American
I was not conditioned to fight the system
so I had to teach myself
how to do that
we all need to do that
we need to try
to wake up
as much as we can
because we are running
out of time
