An 81-year-old Brazilian woman reportedly carried a foetus in her womb for almost 56 years! Unfortunately, she died after a surgery through which doctors successfully removed the foetus in March 2024.
The Daily Mail reported that Daniela Vera, the mother of seven, had no idea about the child that remained in her womb for nearly six decades. She visited a doctor only after feeling an unbearable pain in her stomach while travelling to Paraguay. A doctor found that Vera had a calcified foetus in her stomach. An X-ray image showed the old lady carrying a dead foetus in her womb! Realising the seriousness of the situation, the doctors decided to operate on March 14 (2024). Although doctors were able to remove the foetus through surgery, Vera passed away the very next day.
Later, Dr Patrick Dezirem claimed that the lady unfortunately passed away due to an infection after her surgery. According to the doctor, pregnancy at times occurs in some other parts of the body, instead of the womb. It is called Ectopic Pregnancy, which is a type of pregnancy where the fertilised egg is conceived outside the womb and hence, it does not survive. A similar thing happened with Vera as well.
Dr Dezirem explained that the foetus becomes calcified because of the lack of development in the child. In such cases, there is neither severe pain nor bleeding in the body. Also, there are no visible symptoms in the body until an X-ray is performed on the person. Vera, it is said, started having pain in her abdomen all on a sudden which eventually led to her death.
Usually, a child is born after the mother conceives it and keeps the foetus in her womb for nine months odd. The foetus starts developing inside the mother's body before eventually being born. The human body is a structure that is yet to be explored to the full by medical professionals. Often, some new developments get highlighted about the human body. The latest incident has been in the limelight as it has stunned the medical practitioners, with its bizarre outcome!
