Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
(Acts 2:42 (NIV))
What are you devoted to?
It probably would help if we defined what devotion and being devoted truly mean.
The word devotion means piety, the act of dedicating something to a cause, or the state of being ardently dedicated and loyal. The word devoted means characterized by loyalty. To put it simply, if you are devoted to something, you are loyal and dedicated to it.
Does that describe anything that is currently in your life?
Be truthful in your thought process, for we all think that we are devoted, yet, we are all too easily led down a path that is contrary to what we claim to be devoted to. I want you to reflect on one more question as part of your answer to my previous question. Have there been times in your life that you thought that you would be able to be dedicated to someone, only to find yourself losing interest?
If you are not married to your first love, then you should understand what I mean.
Along those same lines, how has your dedication been to following Jesus? Has it wavered? Have you, like the church as Ephesus, lost your first love?
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
(Revelation 2:4 (NIV))
Devotion indicates a hunger or thirst for something to the point that it becomes not only a priority, but your first priority. What do you place first in your life? What do you treasure?
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(Matthew 6:21 (NIV))
What is hidden in your heart?
We all have priorities that we set for ourselves. Is Jesus your top priority?
Are you devoted?
