We stopped at Karen Blixen's house, do you remember her? She was an author and had two of her books made into movies and she lived on a coffee plantation in Kenya from 1917-1931. Do you remember the movie called Out of Africa with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford? Meryl played Karen Blixen (1885-1962)
We also stopped at a Giraffe Sanctuary, I wasn't super thrilled about this. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not keen on animals being used for entertainment purposes. I know if animals can't be left in the wild for medical reasons etc I get the whole sanctuary thing but six were born on site. Here is a quote, off of their website, "Our main purpose is to educate Kenyan school children and youth on their country's wildlife and environment, as well as give local and international visitors an opportunity to come into close contact with the world's tallest species, the giraffe."
I get educational reasons and help for animals that cannot live/function in the wild but still not a fan.... but when in Africa............
People were quite pushy and shoving others out of the way to feed the giraffes. We were each given a cup of grains to feed them. I got rid of mine and Clint's very quickly and then we just wandered down to one of the stores to wait for everyone.
So that's that............the next day we were off to Amboseli which was a wonderful place and we really enjoyed it. Later...............
