A big afternoon for Liverpool, as they travel to one of the main challengers for honors this season with a trip to St. James Park to play oil rich and power-hungry Newcastle. After a scintillating win over Aston Villa in the opening weekend, Newcastle faltered to a defeat away to the defending champions City, so they will be looking to prove that they are to be considered a serious force this season when the Reds visit.
Liverpool have been making headlines this week again, but unfortunately not incoming transfer related headlines, but rather yet more disruptive rumours of major bids from Saudi Arabia, this time for Mohamed Salah. Whether those rumours transpire or not, you can bet Salah will be out to prove his worth.
The possible absence of Konate will be the most worrying conundrum, I think that Joe Gomez needs to slot in and add some cover on the right-hand side to Trent. In midfield Endo will undoubtedly get his debut in the no.6 role, which should allow both Mac Allister and Szoboszlai contribute more to the offence which in itself is a mouthwatering prospect. I think the time has come for Nunez to start, Gakpo has not been on form so I see him dropping to the bench with Jota.
Newcastle have in-form players such as new midfield genius Sandro Tonali and the impressive Isaak up top which will cause headaches for our defence, but if we can keep solid at the back and in midfield, we will have plenty to trouble the likes of Dan Burns in our attack. There will be goals in this game, I hope the majority are for the Reds. My team is as follows:
Christian has gone for a slightly different formation, commenting 'It has always been great games between the clubs over time but now with all of Newcastle's money, how smart they have invested, and come this far so quickly, is impressive. This game means a lot, and I do think we have another possible classic game on our hands. My worry is that Konate being absent is how poor Salah and Robbo have started this season, I hope they take a big step up improving on Sunday'. He selects the following:
As for Anton he sees it differently again and goes for this starting lineup:
So a big evening, hopefully we get the result we want and play the football to deserve all three points.
Up the Reds.
