Fans expecting to see both Lucha Bros in WWE shortly will likely find themselves disappointed.
Although reports surfaced recently that Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Miedo had signed multi-year deals with WWE, they are both still under AEW contract and legally unable to negotiate with other companies.
AEW President Tony Khan is expected to tack injury time onto Rey Fenix's contract which will keep him under contract for "nearly but not quite one year," according to Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Fenix would not be free to negotiate with other promotions until approximately summer 2025.
As for Penta, his contract with AEW expires in "about two months," Meltzer wrote. He is expected to sign with WWE when it does and there are reportedly multiple reasons for this. Penta is said to be frustrated with how he's been used in AEW and felt disrespected when he was pulled from shows with CMLL talent on it due to his history of wrestling for AAA. WWE is also said to have made him a competitive offer which strengthened his decision to leave.
Penta is going when his deal is up which is within the next two months. Officially the story that has to be said is that he has not negotiated with WWE but will do so when his AEW deal expires - Dave Meltzer
Neither Penta nor Fenix have wrestled for AEW since July. The brothers are former AEW World Tag Team Champions, World Trios Champions along with PAC, and are both AEW originals, having debuted for the promotion against The Young Bucks at Double or Nothing 2019.
