Seven Mausoleum, Azerbaijan, March 2017
Becky is back with another Square Challenge to keep us all busy throughout September, both posting when we can and also enjoying the contributions from other keen square photographers. The seem this month is seven, marking the seventh anniversary of this much-loved blog challenge.
So to kick off I have gone back to my travels in Azerbaijan seven years ago, where one of the fascinating sites I discovered was the Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum, or Seven Mausoleum. The architect Usta Taghi built this for the burials of Mustafa Khan and his family. It contained seven mausoleums, hence its common name of Seven Mausoleum, or sometimes Seven Domes.
The three surviving mausoleums are octagonal, edged with a darker ornamental cornice and topped with an arch-shaped half-cupola.
