Kim Kardashian can't (or won't) stop aping the dead movie star

In an Instagram post by Kim Jones a short while ago, Kim Kardashian was shown in a Fendi couture dress that looked remarkably like the actual Marilyn Monroe gown that she wore to the Met Gala in 2022. Her choice of a dress then and the subsequent damage to it aroused the chagrin of many who thought she should not have worn a fragile garment of tremendous historic significance. Ms Kardashian had to return the dress to Ripley's Believe It or Not!, the museum that facilitated the loan, probably reluctantly; she is, in all likelihood, still dreaming about it. So it was Kim Jones to the rescue. She now gets to have her own version of the dress and she gets to keep it.
It is not clear why she was (and still is) obsessed with that dress. Sure, it was sheer and it showed off her curves. That is the conflicting nature of Kim Kardashian. She is not opposed to the blackout, body-obscuring styles of Balenciaga and, yet, she is totally enamoured with the Marilyn Monroe dress (it is not certain who designed it, accept that Bob Mackie sketched it) that did not fit her body—she had to go on a weight-loss diet to rid 21lbs (almost to 10kg) to get into it (and even then, the dress was allegedly too small for her). Now, to her delight and satisfaction, the two Kims in some kind of self-indulging collaboration, availed another version which she can wear without shedding pounds. Is there not some kind of obsession here?
Mr Jones has not provided the backstory to the dress. Presumably, this is a teaser to the upcoming Fendi couture autumn/winter 2024 show. Or could this be another Fendi and Skims collaboration? It is not clear if Fendi thinks that Kim Kardashian wearing a dress inspired by one that Ms Monroe wore in 1962 and Ms Kardashian forced herself into it 60 years later is a good marketing move or spectacular enhancement to the brand image. Reactions to Mr Jones's IG post suggested quite the contrary. Nearly all commentators, as of now, did not appreciate the photo. "Vulgar" was a recurrent word. To us, Ms Kardashian does not have terribly discerning taste. She switches easily from Balenciaga to Dolce & Gabbana to Balenciaga to Fendi. As long as they are willing to make anything that enhances her derrière, she can be any brand's model. Good news is: Now that this fitted Fendi dress is made to fit her, it won't threaten to tear at the seams, until, perhaps, 60 years later, when the next dress-bursting wearer comes along.
