Bird Ball

By Dan Antion on July 1, 2024

It's been a long time since we had a game of bird ball. The main reason is that Public Works sprays the fields to get rid of the insects the birds like to eat. During the dry spells we've had this month, I was able to capture enough pictures to put a game scenario in place.

Beneath the slide show are a few "necessary" photos. You know the flag and a bunny for River.

  • Sprinkler
"I love seeing those sprinklers. The grass will be nice and cool."
  • Crow at home
"I guess I better get over to the ball field."
  • Heading to park
    "On my way!"
  • Crow parking lot
"Leftover fair food - one of my favorite things for breakfast."
  • Crow on post
"I'm caw-ing this game. I better find a high perch."
  • Birds in front of park
"Eat up, boys. We got a big game today. We're undefeated against the crows and big birds."
  • On lamppost
"Someone fly up there and tell Slow Joe he's looking at the wrong field."
  • Bird on wire
"If Slow Joe can't find the field, I can caw the game from here."
  • Birds by bleachers
"It's gonna be a hot one. I'm staying in the shade for a while."
  • On bleachers
"I'm telling you, you little guys don't have a chance today. The Mourning Doves are playing with us."
  • Mourning Doves
"Let's get ready. The big birds are up first. We're playing with them today."
  • Crows on playground
"Come on Slick. We're up first"
  • In front of dugout
"We're up first. Let's get our lineup sorted."
  • Birds at edge of field
"Finish breakfast, guys. We got a game to play."
  • Near field
"Let's go guys. The big birds are up first."
  • Heading out to field
"Come on, let's show some hustle. You're birds, you know, you could fly to the outfield."
  • Infield
"First base is covered, Chickie's at shortstop. Let's play ball."
  • Big birds in field
"These little guys don't hit far, but they're fast moving around the bases and hard to tag."
  • Birds infield
"Look sharp guys. This guy's a lefty. Hit can hit to the opposite field."
  • birds in outfield
"Alright you guys, let's look alive out here. Bobby, you can look for bugs later, the big birds are up."
  • Outfield
"Come on, this guy can't hit. No Batter-No Batter!"
  • Backstop 2
"Ok, three up, three down. No damage. Now it's our turn."
  • Behind backstop
"Let's get up on the backstop so we can cheer our guys on. We can eat later."
  • Birds on backstop
"OK, ok, let's go. Chickie, you're up first. Let's try to get on base."

And now for a few pictures for non-sports fans
