In honor of those who live with mental illness, I share this good news: I was recently made aware of a genetic test that compares a person's DNA to common medications prescribed for a variety of mental health issues in order to ensure prescribed medications can actually help. Obligatory cat pic When I first heard of the test through an acquaintance, I immediately thought of Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos fame and wrote it all off as another scam. But the results for this person revealed many available medications are not appropriate for her. She is now on a medication that actually helps. I don't want to imply the results for others would be as striking as those of my acquaintance; I honestly don't know enough about the to say. But I have to tell you, the improvement I've seen in someone I know is striking. It's at least worth having a conversation with a health care provider. | | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
