Bye Bye Butterfly

"My goal ...as a photographer, is to witness, participate in, and hopefully share the delicate beauty of wilderness."

Guy Tal

This week Ann-Christine has challenged us with "delicate", offering us many ways to approach the subject. She's warned us that next week's challenge will be Floral, so perhaps we'll want to save our favorite "delicate" flowers for that topic. I've included a few in my post this week including the image above. I loved the delicate little pink flowers, especially due to the butterfly having had it's fill and heading off into the bright blue sky. Trust me, I have many other flowers to choose from for next week LOL. For my second image, I was drawn to the ethereal shapes and colors floating in the water and thought it a good fit for the challenge.

"The photograph is a momentary thing that is soon going to change. Once it's gone, it's gone."

William Albert Allard

Speaking of floating, the image that follows speaks to the delicate balance of nature. My heart went out to the little fellow afloat in a sea of ice, the recent result of an iceberg's calving. So many of our iconic birds and animals depend on the massive glaciers which are melting at an alarming rate, and the sea ice which they create. Fortunately there is more focus than ever on reversing the damage we've done to Mother Earth. Hopefully it is not too late.

Sometimes as photographers we are captivated by the beauty of simplicity. That is what caught my eye and drew me to the image that follows. Photography often causes us to notice the little things we might otherwise pass by without a moment's thought.

"A good photograph has a direct simplicity without recourse to dazzling technique."

Isra"elis Bidermanas

Here in the low country, during our blooming seasons we are happy to welcome back a large number of dragon and damselflies. Their diaphanous wings are a perfect example of delicacy as they zip from one spot to another at amazing speed. Catching them at rest is always a challenge but I did manage to do so in the images that follow.

"I want to see the sunlight on its wings as it flits from flower to flower..."

Jacob A Riis

I'll close this week's choices with an image the takes me back to the long-ago days of fascination with the powder puffs that announced the coming of a dandelion. Interestingly the appearance of the actual weed (not flower) will drive landscapers a bit nuts, while that of the delicate spore continues to fascinate children the world over. How many of us have not made a wish while blowing them into the wind?!

"I wanted (the weed) to tell me something and through me express its meaning in nature."

As always, our thanks to today's host, Ann-Christine, for her creative challenge. Please remember to link your response to her beautiful post here, and to use the Lens-Artists Tag to help us find you. Thanks also to Patti and all of those who responded to last week's Hopeful challenge. We exit the week with some wonderful reasons why hope is alive and well in the world despite its challenges. Finally, be sure to visit next week's host, Sofia, who will ask us to respond to her Floral challenge. Until then as always, please stay safe, be kind, and enjoy the journey.
