Be Still . . .

If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
(Romans 10:9 (NIV))
Does this contradict the following passage that we all know so well?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 (NIV))
One tells us all that we have to do is believe and we will be saved. Romans tells us that we also are to declare with our mouths that Jesus is Lord.
Let me take a different direction and ask a simple question.
If you truly believe in something, do you keep it to yourself or do you talk about it? If you believe that you know a way to make a lot of money, do you try to tell others about it?
With that said, as believers, we have been given a gift that is of far greater value than all of the money in the world. We have been given a gift that is of far greater value than anything in all of creation.
If we honestly believe this, why would we not profess, why would we not declare with our mouths what God has done for us through Jesus?
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
(Romans 10:10 (NIV))
Belief is crucial to accepting the gift freely given at the cross. Sharing that gift is a true sign that you understand the importance and value of this gift. It is a sign that you understand the importance of telling others about what can be theirs if they profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. It doesn't take much to make the leap, to make the connection with the Great Commission.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
(Matthew 28:19-20a (NIV))
How can you make disciples if you don't declare with your mouth?
How can you teach if you don't declare with your mouth?
Is your belief strong enough to make this declaration?
