We are actually expecting storms today - so I am thinking I will start my Spring cleaning in side today . But What will your Spring cleaning plans look like?
All Room Spring Cleaning List
Start with tasks that apply to all rooms, then hit each room one-by-one for more specific cleaning.
- Clean windows
- Clean ceiling fans and Lights
- Vacuum curtains and window blinds
- Wipe down baseboards and shoe molding and dust corners for cobwebs
- Test batteries in all your smoke detectors
- Disinfect doorknobs, cabinet handles and light switches
DIY Window cleaner :
- Empty Spray bottle
- Vinegar
- Liquid dish soap
- hot water
- optional : essential oils
Mix your ingredients. In a spray bottle, combine a 1/4 cup white vinegar with a 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Dilute the solution with two cups of water, then shake the bottle vigorously to mix the components. If you happen not to have white vinegar on hand, note that you can substitute in lemon juice.
What's the Best Wipe?
While you could use paper towels, a soft micro fiber works best for first removing dust and loose debris from windows. Then use a separate clean microfiber cloth to work the homemade window cleaner along the glass surface and remove stubborn dirt and residue. A squeegee is especially useful for deep-cleaning the outside of your windows and achieving a streak-free shine.
Cleaning tips:
Simply use a lint-free cloth to pick up and clear away the dust. Then, once finished, complete the job by polishing the glass to a streak-free shine with a different, clean cloth.
If possible, clean your windows on a cloudy day. When sun is shining directly on the window, the cleaning solution dries faster, which can leave behind streaks or water marks.
Ceiling Fans and Baseboard cleaners :
DIY Scented All Purpose cleaner:
- One part White Vinegar
- One part water
- Lemon rind
- Rosemary springs
Combine the above ingredients together, pour into a spray bottle, shake, and then let infuse for a week before using. Once done, you can use the homemade all-purpose cleaner to water stains clean trash cans, wipe away wall smudges, and much more. Besides a fresh scent, the lemon rind may help boost cleaning power. Caution: Do not use acidic cleaners on granite, as they will etch the stone and proceed cautiously on stainless steel. Some manufacturers recommend against using vinegar on their appliance surfaces.
Fan Blades cleaning :
Make a thick paste with cream of tartar and water to clean any sticky dust buildup that just refuses to budge. Use a damp sponge or cloth and scrub the gunk away in small sections — it works on cabinets, backsplashes, and stainless steel, too
Testing Fire Alarms :
Press and hold the test button on the smoke detector. It can take a few seconds to begin, but a loud, ear-piercing siren should emanate from the smoke detector while the button is pressed. If the sound is weak or nonexistent, replace your batteries.
