Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
(1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NIV))
With the crucifixion and resurrection still fresh in our minds, have you ever thought about it as a ransom?
What do you think of when you think of a ransom?
If you are like most people, you think of someone kidnapping a relative of someone wealthy and demanding a payment for their safe return.
All of humanity, through the fall from grace, has been kidnapped. We, through trickery and lies, have been led away from a loving Creator and Father. He loves us so much that God our Father is the one who devised a plan to redeem us through the ransom that was paid. He decided that no cost was too great in restoring us to Himself.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
(John 3:16-18 (NIV))
Do you realize that you have been held captive by the power of sin and death? Do you realize that a ransom had to be paid to set you free from your captivity?
All too often we read the words but fail to truly grasp the implication of those words. Sometimes we have to do what God wants us to do in order to truly understand. We simply need to be still and know!
He says, "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
(Psalm 46:10 (NIV))
Each of us were born captives to sin and death. Each of us are a sinner in need of a Savior. Each of us needed someone to pay the ransom required to redeem us. It was a ransom far too great for anyone to pay themselves. God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to pay the ransom for each and every one of us. He took the weight of the sins of all humanity upon Himself.
This ransom is the greatest gift ever given to humanity!
Have you accepted this ransom payment as your own?
