supposedly
if the sun does it's thing
and hits us
with a BIG solar storm
it could fry the
grid
completely and
thrown us
back to the
stone age
where
90%
of the population
would die
from starvation
disease
and other things
like being shot to death
anyway
we wouldn't have
anything
we use every day
to keep ourselves
alive
it sounds like a
bad
sci-fi movie
with Harrison Ford
but it could actually
happen
and we wouldn't be able to repair
anything around us
without electricity
we are dependent
on so many things
I don't know what
the 10%
who do stay alive
will do to keep existing
but I won't be one of them
I have absolutely no survival skills
having lived in a city my entire life
the closest I've come to wilderness
would be visiting the forest preserves
when I was a teenager
we would freeze to death in Chicago
that's for sure
and I hate wearing shoes in the house
so there's that
fighting to stay alive
would be everyone's full time job
scientists really know how to
cheer us up
the stone age doesn't appeal to me
in anyway at all
and while people will just shoot us
instead of hitting us with clubs
to take what we may have
like water or a battery
I think radiation
would be problematic as well
since the ozone layer
will be eaten by the storm
and we will no longer
have any protection
people would get really sick
and there would be no one
to help anyone
I wonder if they would keep fighting
in the war zones
until they ran out of bullets
or there was no one left to kill
I don't see how anyone can prepare
for something like this
but Florida might get really crowded
really quick
you have to look at this kind of thing
with a sense of humor
because we've never really been safe
we exist on a rock in space
anything could happen
according to scientists
we've been
LUCKY
so far
and there is truly nothing to be done
to stop anything that comes at us
you'd think our star
would be nicer to us
especially since
we seem to be its only child
but apparently
it has poor storm control
and keeps shooting things at us
I mean it's going to eat the planet
eventually
but that's a long way off
talk about climate change
some think the phone outages
on Monday
were from the solar flare the sun
hit us with
and that was no where near
as big as the one they think
is coming
personally
I think the government just did a test run
messing with our phones to see what people
would do without them
pitchforks
or storm DC
the good news
is that scientists are often
wrong
our weather people can't seem to get
anything right
looking out the window is the only way
to know what's going on
so we can hope
that with their billion dollar machines
and tracking devices
they'll be wrong again
if not
it won't matter
at least not for long
I mean
the poor dinosaurs
just got hit with another rock
and look what happened to them
I don't know if the rich guys
will be safe in their underground mansions
supposedly they've thought of everything
and I don't doubt that
but for the rest of us
how do we live without electricity
no hot showers
cooking*
refrigeration
gas for our cars
pretty much
nothing at all
and worst of all
Bruce Willis
won't be able to save us
I always thought that if something bad
happened
he'd be there for us
but life is like that
once we acknowledged that
we just kill each other
and every other living thing
the universe laughs
and shows us
what real power
feels like
and without Willis
we don't stand a chance

*Take a cupcake pan. Drop the tea light candles into the openings. Light the candles and you can cook over them. Just put the pot on the cupcake tin and you have a wee stove. So buy some tea candles just in case. Lots of canned soup too.
