Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
(1 Peter 3:18 (NIV))
When I read this passage, I immediately think of the following words from the song "Yes Lord" by Darrell Evans.
I'm trading my sorrow
I'm trading my shame
I'm laying it down for the joy of the Lord
I'm trading my sickness
I'm trading my pain
I'm laying it down for the joy of the Lord
I don't know about you, but I am eternally thankful that I could exchange my sorrow and my shame, my sickness and my pain, and my unrighteousness for the righteousness and joy of the Lord!
I am definitely on the better end of this arrangement.
With that said, have you ever truly stopped to think about the great price that Jesus paid in order to make this exchange?
It is mind-blowing what He willingly went through just so that you and I could find grace and mercy. It is amazing what He went through so that we could find salvation. It is flabbergasting that anyone would willingly take on the pain and suffering of all humanity just so that we could call out His name as our Lord and Savior.
Yet, that is exactly what He did!
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.
(John 15:13 (NIV))
Jesus willingly laid down His life. Jesus did what He did out of love.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
(John 3:16-18 (NIV))
Jesus exchanged our sin for His righteousness so that we could be brought to God righteous and redeemed.
Have you been brought to God in righteousness?
