Be Still . . .

Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
(Psalm 139:23 (NIV))
As humans, we love our privacy!
We don't want anyone knowing our business, nor meddling in our business.
With that truth laid out for your consideration, how does the concept of asking God to search you, to know your heart, and to test you make you feel?
When I read this passage today, something came to mind that I have never thought about before. If God already knows our hearts, why do we shun the idea of asking Him to search us? Personally, I believe that it has to do with our pride. Ironically, we even try to hide things from God. When we humble ourselves and ask God to search us, we are surrendering to His authority. We are surrendering to all that He has for us.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
(James 4:10 (NIV))
We are admitting that we do not know what is best. We are admitting that we are sinners in need of a savior. We are admitting that we totally surrender to His Lordship and that we want Him to remake us in His image.
I don't know about you, but my understanding of human nature has a hard time reconciling this action. Even those who profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior still try to hide things from the Lord. We profess that we long for this to happen, yet, just like Paul, we continue to do things that we don't want to do.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
(Romans 7:15 (NIV))
Perhaps we do these things because we are not fully willing. Or perhaps we are not fully capable of allowing God to search us and remake us through the removing of the sin that we still cling to.
With this under consideration, I need to ask one more question. Be truthful with your answer.
Are you willing to be searched?
