After returning from my trip to Seoul, I have been constantly craving a bowl of Kong Guksu, especially in this blazing weather in Singapore. A quick search showed that 2 Korean restaurants in Singapore do serve this dish and I immediately made a trip down to one of them at Tanjung Pagar

Located in Maxwell Chambers, Eee Mo BBQ is not near the famous Korean street in Tanjung Pagar; thus, it is not as well known as other establishments. When I arrived past meal times, there were only 2 other tables occupied

The layout of the restaurant provides great privacy for all tables as each table is segregated by standing partitions. The restaurant itself is mid-sized with a table capacity of up to 30 to 40 diners at one time

The menu is great for single as well as group dinners as they provide many different varieties of set meals. Most of their BBQ sets include a platter of meat with soup and a side dish or if you provide, they also have Bossam or Jokbal sets with other stir fry meats

The staff proceeded to set the table after taking our orders by passing us a jug of iced barley tea followed by a series of banchan like seaweed, japchae, kimchi, fried chicken chunks, seasoned soybean sprouts, spicy fish cake and mayonnaise root vegetable. The side dishes were all quite delicious and I particularly liked the kimchi and japchae

I ordered a bossam set which came with the bossam dish, a kimchi jigae as well as a small serving of raw soy marinated crab. The set is good for 2 people to share and comes with white rice. As a soy crab lover, this version was quite mediocre for me as I could not taste the sweetness of the crab and only the salty marinade. The kimchi jigae was a savoury sourish version which was good with rice but the soup texture was not thick enough to be a jigae. The bossam was nicely cooked with juicy meat slices which were on the lean side. When eaten with the fresh kimchi and washed kimchi provided, the bossam has a nice crunch of meaty juices and sweetness from the kimchi

The most anticipated dish for me is the kong guksu which was ordered in addition to the bossam set. In terms of colour at first glance, the soybean gravy was a light brown nutty colour with a strong sesame fragrance. I tried the soup first and it was definitely different from the one in Seoul. The flavour was a mix of sesame and peanut taste with a light base of soy milk taste and it was quite watery compared to the creamy milky one in Seoul. The noodles were chewy and refreshing to eat with nutty soup but due to the sesame seeds and flavour, it was heavier on the stomach so I could not really finish 1 bowl. Personally, I don't really like this version of the kong guksu

Overall, I feel they do have very good meat dishes and the cuts provided for BBQ are also of good quality as I saw the next table with their premium beef cuts. The bossam was also great although not the best since I have tried better ones elsewhere. I would say they have a nice quiet environment for good BBQ meats which is away from the rest of the crowd
