In mid-December, a friend and I went to the Hammersmith Apollo in West London to spend the evening with Donny Osmond. Yes, that Donny Osmond. 🙂
We very sensibly girded our lions with a few pre-show cocktails (2-for-1 between 5pm-7pm) at Be At One, which turned out to be a lot of fun. The Raspberry Beret cocktail is delicious, don't be put off by its blue colour.
Be At One, Hammersmith
I don't think I've ever been in a crowd that was made up of predominantly post-menopausal women behaving badly. Donny Osmond plays his part well and recognises that his fanbase is now made up of screaming, slightly hysterical grandmother-types. He himself is now a grandfather of fourteen. 🙂
Whatever you think of Donny Osmond, there's no denying that he is a superb entertainer, even if that entertainment is accompanied by a large side helping of cheese. I haven't enjoyed myself so much at a concert in quite a while.
I'm just that little bit too young to have been a huge fan of the Osmonds back in the '70s - the Donny and Marie Show was more my thing. I'm pretty certain I had a poster of them on my bedroom wall. :)
If you ever have the chance to see Donny Osmond in concert, I recommend highly that you go - you'll have an amazing evening.
