Ecco have not exactly been known for their forward shoe styles, but things could change in the brand's 60th year, beginning with a collab with Natacha Ramsay-Levi
The Danish shoe brand Ecco is, as we have noted, slowly shedding its conservative image and modernizing their merchandise. This can be seen in their highly popular Pot Bag. It is increasingly evident in their footwear too: This season, there is the surprise collaboration with Natacha Ramsay-Levi to mark their 60th Anniversary and the attendant "refreshed brand direction", as Ecco calls it. The pairing with the former Chloe creative director is not a one-off arrangement, but one that will see the French designer create a bi-annual capsule collection known as NRL. At the moment, it appears that only the shoes would receive what Ms Ramsay-Levi describes as "highlighting what already exists with another point of view".
That POV means a more gallant take on the brand's classics by marrying the sportif to the feminine. Especially fetching is the Biom-C Trial shoe, based on Ecco's signature Biom last that is characterised by its anatomically-sensitive width. Add to the comfort factor is the rubber outsole's organic form, which Ms Ramsay Levels has given strikingly bright colours, such as the chartreuse seen in the above photo. From the side view, the shoe is, in fact, quad-coloured. The outsole frames a supple leather upper in the shape of those of conventional pumps, with an adjustable, toggled cord at the rear of the collar. True comfort, Ecco affirms—and we agree, does not have to sacrifice style.
