My friends, let's roll right into Friday in fine fall fashion. If you keep up with my many freelance writing pursuits (in addition to putting out daily stories on this blog!), then perhaps you're well aware of my growing interest in the world of Scotch (and bourbon).
I started as a fan years ago, then wrote for sites like GearMoose, and discovered it's a great field in which you learn by doing (in this case, tasting). It's one that nicely complements my passion for all things menswear, too. After all, nothing goes together quite like a dram of campfire bourbon and a waxed trucker jacket, or a finely crafted Oxford shirt and a sip of Scotch.
It was the "Oxford shirt and sip of Scotch" combination that I enjoyed these past few days, as I trekked down to tropical Miami -- a change of pace from the fall confines of Brooklyn! -- to enjoy a series of Scotch releases from The Glen Grant. We also tried an exclusive Scotch releasing next month, one which you can read all about in the weeks ahead from yours truly.
But that trip was a change of pace for another reason: I had to put away my rugged leather jacket and my favorite henley, and dress instead in light and breezy menswear. That meant I reached for a new knit polo from New York's own SER.O.YA, an upstart brand blending the aesthetics of streetwear, sportswear and a touch of prep. My pick? The Axel Fitted Polo, which proved a nice move in the heat of Miami.
They're favored by celebs and athletes alike, so keep a weather eye out for that pre-tunnel footage of your favorite ballplayer rocking SER.O.YA.
The result of that intersection of style and sportier tastes is a series of classically inspired pieces, like the sweater polo I tried out above, plus edgier staples like distressed denim, slouchy T-shirts and graphic tees and hoodies. It all spoke of big city style, making that polo perfect to wear in Miami (perhaps you saw mine on my Instagram Stories!).
I'd urge you to give the brand a look for yourself, and in the meantime, check back tomorrow for the first of two fall weekend style dispatches, as per tradition. Cheers and stay stylish!
