From being one of the most popular games in 2014 to becoming a feature film this year, Five Nights At Freddy's is an extremely popular franchise and has managed to garner a large audience and attract new fans in creative ways over the years. The first launch of the game sold over three million copies worldwide. As this game was made into a film, it attracted a wide variety of new audiences.
When Five Nights At Freddy's first came out, video game fans everywhere went crazy over its unique style and story. Since the first release of the game did extremely well, they were able to create a sequel, and many more games after that. Some of these games include FNAF World (2016), Five Nights At Freddy's: Sister Location (2016), Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator (2017), and Ultimate Custom Night (2018).
The launch of these games sparked something in the creators, which led to what some might call a cinematic masterpiece. Along with the game itself, fans have fallen in love with the backstory, packed full of intriguing lore. These details contributed to a thrilling plot for the movie, especially for fans who are already familiar with the Five Nights At Freddy's backstory. This movie represents the lore behind all of the games, and combines them together, as well as the thrill and fear that some experience in the game, during the movie.
Five Nights At Freddy's the film is about a man named Mike Schmidt who was recently fired, and desperate for work so that he can keep custody of Abby, his younger sister. Schmidt agrees to take a position as a night security guard at an abandoned theme restaurant: Freddy Fazzbear's Pizzaria. Soon after beginning his job, Schmidt quickly discovers that Freddy's is not what it seems.
There are some differences between the movie and the games, but most people have said that it is very similar to the games. According to Common Sense Media, users of the game have described the film to be "insanely accurate" and "a great watch to anyone who hasn't played any of the games", and many other viewers have agreed with those statements as well.
However, not all of the people who have seen it agree with those statements. There has been a mixture of reviews relating to how accurate it is. Even though many were very happy with the relation to lore and scariness in the film, others were more upset with it. According to Screen Rant, "The film's PG-13 rating limits its scariness and creates a toothless experience that fails to capture the creepiness of the video game series."
With that being said, you do not have to be a player of any of the games to be able to understand, or even enjoy the movie. The film itself does a great job leaving you with no questions to be asked towards the end until the credits, which makes this film one of the best in this generation. However, the ending of the movie leaves viewers with a major cliffhanger, which could be hinting that there will be a sequel sometime soon.
