My original travel plans to Ipoh were with my whole family, but I only travelled with my nephew due to some circumstances. Even though my plans changed, my hotels were already booked and paid for in advance so no further changes could be made
The main reason why I chose Travelodge was because they had family rooms which could accommodate 4 adults. In terms of location, it is really not ideal as it is nestled amongst many private housing and standalone bungalows converted to fine dining restaurants. I was looking for breakfast places on the day of my departure but the nearest one was 10 mins walk away so I skipped breakfast and went straight to the airport
The hotel has a nice huge drive-through pouch for vehicles or tour buses to drop off their guests and the main lobby was not huge but spacious enough with sufficient seats for guests to wait for check-in procedures. There were only 3 counters for check-in and the process took slightly longer than usual as the staff forgot to charge me for tourist tax and had to reprocess the payment. The staff was generally polite and friendly in answering my queries. There was a small table next to the counter with complimentary iced welcome drinks to help beat the heat outside. On a side note, I also borrowed a luggage scale from the reception and the staff was very helpful and offered to help me weigh my luggage
The structure of the hotel is similar to the one at Cameron Highland as both rooms lined up next to each other to form a large rectangular format. The centre part of the hotel has no rooms and you can look down all the way to the 2nd floor. This structure allows natural lighting to enter the corridors and provide a bright environment
The room is huge with working desk space and a lounge sofa area and ample space for 2 large or more suitcases. The room is very well maintained and clean although the beds and pillows are a bit too soft for my liking but were perfect for my nephew. There is an open-concept wardrobe provided, an ironing board, a luggage storage area, a small safe, a bar fridge and amenities for making coffee and tea
The toilet size is spacious with the shower separated from the toilet with a glass panel so the toilet does not get wet from the shower. The towel racks are located just above the toilet bowl which is not an ideal position in my opinion as I have to step out of the shower for quite a distance to grab the towels and the floor can be cold. The shower head is also fixed on the wall and the angle could not really be adjusted so you have to stand a distance from the wall to get under the direction of the water. Basic amenities like shower gel, shampoo, hand wash, and toothbrushes are provided. Cleanliness of the bathroom is kept clean and housekeeping does a good job refilling up amenities and cleaning
Overall, there is no major complaint or discomfort from staying at Travelodge Ipoh and it offers a comfortable night's rest with great service staff. The only plus point is a spacious room for big families but the location is not the best to choose from as it is at least an 8 mins drive from the buzz of the city's central
