Symmetry on Kiawah's Beach
"...in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth."
Rachel Carson
As I thought about Sofia's symmetry challenge this week I will admit I was a bit flummoxed (don't you just love that word?!). During my daily walk on our lovely beach however, it seemed there were examples of symmetry all around me. My collage above shows the symmetrical tidelines in the sand, a pinecone with its symmetrical scales, and the symmetries of a starfish and of a crab's claws. It was a perfect day for my symmetry search. Following my beach adventure, my archives delivered additional examples of symmetry, some of which I've shared below. First up, some symmetrical yummies from a farmer's market:
Farmers' Market Symmetry
"Like a farmer you should be too busy cultivating your crops to care what others think about the untidiness of your lands."
Curtis Tyrone Jones
Next, an architectural gallery showing some symmetrical doors, windows and archways:
"Architecture appears for the first time when the sunlight hits a wall."
Louis Kahn
From the best architect of all, Mother Nature's symmetry:
"I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery—air, mountains, trees... This is what it is to be happy."
Sylvia Plath
I'll close with an homage to John and the many other lovers of classic cars, showing the symmetry of years gone by. If you look closely, you may see a face below the license plate - perhaps shocked or even pleased at having been included in this week's response 😊.
Classic Symmetry
"′Classic′ - a book which people praise and don't read."
Mark Twain
Thanks to Sofia for this weeks challenge - I'll admit that once I started I had a hard time stopping! We look forward to seeing your responses. Please remember to link them to Sofia's original here, and to use the Lens-Artists Tag to appear in our reader. Thanks also to John for last week's Billboards and Signs challenge. It was nice to have a break from the week's news to find so many smiles. Finally, we hope you'll join us next week when Donna leads us on her always-beautiful Wind Kisses blog. Until then, as always please stay safe, be kind and enjoy the journey.
