Change!
"The measure of intelligence is the ability to change."
Albert Einstein
This week John challenges us to share images of billboards and signs. I've opened with a personal favorite, but mostly in honor of John's love of trains
. I also love the sign's message - after all, who would not benefit from some positive changes in their lives ?! On the other hand, some things will never change, despite any ups or downs - such as my husband's love of the Boston Red Sox. I couldn't miss including this image of a sign we found during one of our visits to New England.
Forever Fan
"Well, it took me 17 years to get 3,000 hits in baseball, and I did it in one afternoon on the golf course."
Hank Aaron
John's challenge offers so many ways to go, the real challenge is limiting the size of our responses! One way to do that is by using collages, such as the one that follows. I've combined some of the more humorous signs I've come across in our travels, as well as the little egret on the top right which apparently is engrossed in reading one of Kiawah's many signs.
Always Room For Humor
"A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life."
William Arthur Ward
Some signs may have a less obvious interpretation, such as the image below which includes a sign that a storm has ended and there is a beautiful evening ahead at Kiawah's Ocean Course.
Nature's Sign
"Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars?"
Nora Roberts
Some signs might seem funny to us but quite serious to local residents. For example, the sign in the image below is not really something we worry about on Kiawah. That said, I'm guessing that the image that follows it might strike the Jordanians as just as humorous to them as we Kiawah residents found their camel sign.
Not Likely
"Learn to be patient, like a camel in the desert."
Anoir Ou-chad
Unnecessary Sign
"Writing is the hardest way of earning a living, with the possible exception of wrestling alligators."
Richard Miller
As long as we're talking about creatures, I've included an image you've probably seen here before. But it cracks me up every time! Proof positive that birds CAN read.
"...it's the kind of flying that's composed entirely of walking."
Jarod Kintz
I'll close with a clever "sign" of the season (OK perhaps I"ve stretched the meaning of the challenge a bit far but in light of its timing I'm hoping you'll let it pass).
Trick or Treat? Treat Please!
"We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!"
Humbert Wolfe
Thanks to John for the fun opportunity to share some humor this week. We look forward to seeing the signs and billboards that have caught your eye and drawn your lens. Be sure to link your posts to John's original here, and to use the Lens-Artists Tag to appear in our reader section. Thanks also to Amy for last week's Contrasts challenge - once again you've responded with amazing variety and beautiful examples. Finally, we hope you'll join us next week when Sofia leads the challenge on her always-beautiful Photographias blog. Until then please stay safe, be kind and enjoy the journey.
