We never really went carolling when I was a child. I don't know if our village just didn't bother, or if we didn't.
Instead, we'd visit my aunt and uncle, where all their neighbours would gather to await their local carol-singers. We'd have mince pies and sausage rolls, hot from the oven, and mulled wine (for the adults, anyway). We were the last stop of the night for the singers, and they'd come in for a sing-song with the rest of us. And then we'd all have to try and remember the tunes, and share the few booklets of words around the room.
And it was the carol-singing gnomes which won a reprieve for the gnome stamp set. At least, combined with a musical embossing folder from last Christmas. Set on a gold background, it seemed to me to make a good speech-bubble sort of thing. And then I discovered why you shouldn't really colour straight onto the card-base. I probably knew before, if I thought about it, but I didn't, so now I actually know. Never mind.
I had meant to make more with the musical set, which came with stamps and a Tonic treble-clef die. But I kept failing with the inspiration.
It doesn't help that I think I already have all the Christmas cards I need for this year, but not all the birthday ones for this birthday season. That and all the reading I'm now doing.
And my desk is in a fairly constant state of chaos and mess. That is never conducive to creative thought and inspiration. There are plans afoot to put up some spice racks and properly reorganise. Perhaps that will help with tidying and staying tidy. Perhaps it won't. But there's only one way to find out.
