A big day at Anfield this afternoon as the Red's welcome Villa in buoyant mood for the final league game before the first international break of the season.
After the heroics of last weeks victory away to Newcastle, Liverpool will want to see out the 4th game of the new campaign and go into the break at the right end of the table, still very much on the coat tails of leaders Man City.
Villa had a disasterous start to the campaign when they lost heavily to Newcastle, but have turned it around in the interim with victories over Everton and Burnley. They had a easy victory over Hibernian midweek in the Europa Conference, and Unai Emery is likely to make several changes.
Emiliano Martinez, the expert of time wasting, will be assessed before the match after coming back to training from a calf injury. If he was to remain sidelined that would be a major plus for the Reds.
In the centre of the park Moussa Diaby has had a very strong start to the season, and he could become Villas first player to score in each of Villa's opening three away matches since David Platt if he netted at Anfield. Matty Cash found a new lease of life in the win over Burnley from the right hand side of midfield, and Douglas Luiz seemed to have been a serious consideration in the transfer market for Liverpool.
But Liverpool's midfield is reborn and rebooted, and the attack is in mu opinion possible one of the strongest in Europe. Nunez deserves his start, and I think Gakpo will drop to replace him. Ryan Gravenberch was a late signing for Liverpool and he was not registered on time for this game so teh midfield of MacAllister, Szoboszlai and Endo should start.
Both Anton and Christian agree, with Anton remarking 'With Virgil suspended, Konate injured and a few returning from injuries in midfield, I think the backline and midfield picks itself. Up top I am going for pace and form'. Our collective chosen team is as follows:
So there you have it. Anfield will be rocking and I can see lots of goals for the Reds, a clean sheet would be awesome - but three points please Liverpool!
Up the Reds.
