"As long as I live, I'll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing."

John Muir

This week Patti challenges us to consider Edges, which immediately made me think about our visit to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. From a helicopter flight above, we were amazed at the size and depth of the falls. But on our ground level hike we were stunned by the roar of the water as it cascaded toward the gorge below. Twice the height and width of Niagara Falls, this amazing natural wonder is second in size only to Iguazu Falls in Argentina.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, here on Kiawah the waters are a bit calmer 😊 and more accessible to the shorebirds that frequent our beach, especially at water's edge.

"Thoughts are the shorebirds scurrying back and forth just beyond the edge of oncoming waves."

Tom Gillaspy

Thinking of water in its various forms, here's another image on the subject. This is one of golf's most famous lighthouses on the beautiful Turnberry Course at the edge of the Irish Sea in Scotland.

"Some days I'm the ocean. Some days I'm the ship. Tonight, I'm the lighthouse: at the edge, alone and burning."

H.D. Carlton

One more seaside vista, this time on the ocean's edge with very little water to be seen. I captured this incredible sunset last week at Kiawah's famous Ocean Course. For me, it defines the edge between day and night.

"Against all sense I believe. Somewhere, beyond the ragged edge of night, light bleeds into this world."

Olivia Hawker

From the world's edges, let's move to the interior and check on the lives of some of our smallest creatures - bugs! First up, some ants on the edges of a beautiful Heliconia Pendula plant (and yes, I had to look that up 😊.)

"The ant...the foolish ant. Sitting on the edge of an enormous disc spinning about its axis..."

Anurag Shrivastava

Here's another well-known critter seen in our backyards or in this case on my front porch railing earlier this week:

"The attraction of being wild is living on the edge."

Christian Slater

Of course, the best edge-navigators of all, the beloved dragon and/or damsel fly.

"When you come to the edge of all that you know, you must believe one of two things: either there will be ground to stand on, or you will be given wings to fly."

O.R. Melling

I'll close my rather long post with some of our local edge-dwelling residents. First up, some sweet little blue heron chicks on the edge of fledging at nearby Magnolia Gardens.

"Fixed mindset worries in the nest and the growth mindset dances on the edge."

Of course there's more than one example of "living on the edge" here on Kiawah so I'll close with this iconic example:

Hanging on the edge, Kiawah Island

"Alligators want to be away from you just as much as you want to be away from them"

Jack Hanna

Thanks to Patti for taking us to the edges. We hope you'll join us this week with your own interpretation. Remember to link to Patti's beautiful and creative post here, and to use the Lens-Artists Tag to help us find you. Thanks also to those who responded to last week's Tell Us Why challenge. It was so much fun understanding your choices, all of which were amazing! Finally, we hope you'll join us next week at noon EST when Ann-Christine leads us on her Leya site with "On Display". Until then, as always please stay safe, be kind, and enjoy the journey.
