Sergers: they are equal parts tantalizing and terrifying. They can do so many cool things at once; seam, trim, and finish – all at lightning speed. But, to make it happen, there are a lot of threads working together and… knives! Luckily, the benefits should outweigh your apprehensions.
Although they are great at handling lots of different types of fabrics, sergers are particularly well-known for working with knits and other stretchy substrates. When it's summertime, that definitely makes us think about swimsuits. Have you priced swimsuits recently? For such small bits of fabric and trim, they carry very hefty price tags. With a serger in your sewing space, you'll save money and create for own custom looks for lounging poolside.
With Janome's One-Push Air Threading System, the tedious threading of upper and lower loopers is a thing of the past. In fact, if "fear of threading" has kept you from even considering a serger, we encourage you to visit your Janome Canada dealer to take the Janome AT2000D for a spin.
Lower Looper
Simply lifting and lowering a lever is all it takes to deliver the perfect amount of air to thread the loopers.
Upper Looper
Plus, there's also a built-in needle threader, so it really is fast and easy to set up the machine –from top to bottom. Since its debut the Janome AT2000D has collected not one but two design and quality awards. One of the top features acknowledged each time was the machine's built-in one-step converter, which makes changing from 3-thread to 2-thread applications so simple.
A cover hem is a professional-style serged hem that traditionally has two to three lines of parallel stitching on the right side and a looper stitch which covers the raw edge of the fabric on the back side. It's the type of hem commonly found on most ready-to-wear knit garments as it has plenty of stretch and so will not distort the hem. It's also very fast and clean. One of the biggest benefits of a focused-function machine like the Janome CP3000P is how it allows you to sew in a more efficient manner, especially if you are making several items at once or creating more complex garments that require you to hem at multiple points within the construction process.
Whether you have your eye on making some basic knitwear, are considering giving lingerie a try, are taking on the costumes for your child's entire dance team, or… as we said above, are more than ready to style your own swimsuits, you need a sergerand ideally a coverhem machine, as well.
Can you create without a serger in your space? Of course you can, but as we often say at Sew4Home, having the right tools for job makes all the difference in the final appearance of your project as well as the ease (and fun!) of the construction along the way.
The Janome AT2000D currently lists the MSRP for $2,229 and the Janome CP3000P's MSRP is $2,349. As mentioned, the two work together perfectly and can truly add to the professional production of your projects, especially if you are doing multiples or just want to save a ton of time and have more fun in the process. And, if you just want to dip your toe into the serger pool, there are great entry level models starting at under $800. As always, check with your local Janome Canada dealer for more information as well as any individual promotional details they may have available.
