I don't know about you, but I'm of the opinion that, within reason, every part of your #OOTD should clear a very high bar: Rugged quality, durability, utility and versatility. Those pillars hold true for all kinds of menswear essentials, from a better-quality merino T-shirt to comfortable joggers for WFH days -- and of course, it holds true for the travel gear you bring on the road as you get back out into the world.
Over the years, I've found that this is where famed Pacific Northwest heritage outfitter Filson comes into play. Be it one of the best summer shirts for men or everyday carry gear, I've found that Filson always hits those key metrics, and of course, Filson bags and luggage are no slouch, either. That's why we're here today, in fact.
You're probably well-acquainted with Filson if you read the blog, but if not, here's a great place to start as you gear up to hit the road. In this case, I'm talking about the impossibly rugged, seriously cool Filson Dryden Travel Briefcase, which I took with me on a recent freelance trip to Portland, Oregon.
I was certainly able to put this bag through its paces as one of my stylish carry-on bags, and believe me when I say it more than lived up to my (admittedly very high) expectations. This dependable travel briefcase is like a souped-up version of your standard laptop bag or messenger brief.
And yet, it's made with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a brand that's been making rough-and-tumble gear for more than a century.
For starters, it's crafted from abrasion-resistant, water-repellent 1,000-denier nylon -- that makes it the good stuff. Yet, that material doesn't weigh down the bag, even with my Dell laptop, a book, a notebook and essentials like stylish sunglasses in tow. That brings me to my next point: The Filson Dryden Travel Briefcase offers tons of storage space, with deep front zip pockets finished with handsome leather pull tabs.
The Filson Dryden Travel Briefcase is also finished with a tough yet comfortable, thick shoulder strap. The hardware is all vintage Filson in terms of design, and I expect it to get better with age. There's also a back zipper pocket for quick access to other EDC essentials, and two interior slotted pockets.
In my estimation, the Filson Dryden Travel Briefcase keeps on going and going in terms of rugged performance, and that should only hold true with age. The next time I hit the road, there's no doubt I'm bringing the Filson Dryden Travel Briefcase with me -- you should certainly do the same!
