Did you know that many of the Janome presser feet and accessories we enjoy at home in our sewing room are modeled after what's used in the professional sewing industry?
The Janome HP (High Performance) Foot and Knee Lifter, which come included in many machines, and are available separately as add-on accessories for other models, are direct copies of what's used in the industry. The same is true of the Janome Spool Stands, which attach to a variety of machine to provide convenience and optimum thread delivery, especially for those "finnicky" threads like monofilament and metallic threads. High-speed Sergers and CoverPro machines already have the thread stands permanently attached, but Janome has a couple of options available as add-on accessories for the sewing and embroidery machines, as well.
Janome Continental M17 5-Thread Spool Stand
The fabulous Janome Continental M17 is a very special, very specific machine, so it has it's own unique 5-Thread Spool Stand, complete with 5 large spool caps, 5 thread nets, and 5 cone adaptors, so you can use any size spool or cone of thread for embroidery or regular sewing.

I use the thread nets for metallic and slippery threads which want to slip off the spool too quickly and pool around the base of the spool pin. This is what can jam your machine and cause the bobbin holder to spin out of alignment, so using the thread net to slow down the thread delivery in conjunction with the larger spool cap to bypass the spool pin will improve your experience with those "finnicky" threads, as I call them. Thread Nets are available separately, so contact your Janome Canada dealer for details.
The telescoping thread mast also provides more distance for the thread to uncurl and relax before it comes down to the tension unit of the machine, so you'll have less stitching woes at the needle.
In a recent Janome Sewing Machines/ Janome Continental Club Facebook LIVE I showed the Janome CM17 5-Thread Spool Stand and shared some threading tips and tricks, so click on the link above to review.
Many other Janome machines will fit the more universal 5-thread Spool Stand , which is ideal to use for embroidery machines to save a ton of time by lining up spools of threads ahead of time when it's time to change colours. Look at the back of your machine to see if there's two screws, usually below the handle in the centre of the machine. If so, your machine can accept a spool stand. However, for my Janome MC15000 and Janome MC550ELE, I don't bother to attach the spool stand to the back of the machine, I just clip it over the handle. It works beautifully and I save time by not having to remove the screws to take off the thread stand when it's time to move the machine.
Many models will so fit the 2-thread Spool Stand, which is great to use with larger cones of thread, or again when sewing with those "finnicky" threads like monofilament, or metallic threads. This spool stand must be attached to the back of the machine as there's two pins on the base of the stand which go into the machine. Included are 2 cone adapters, 2 large spool caps, and 2 thread nets, so use any size or type of spool or cone of thread you wish.
