Today's Bible Reading- 2 Kings Chapters 11-13.
Good morning, my friends. I hope you're well. Our forecast for today: 81°, cloudy, 70% chance of rain, good air quality, wind is calm at the moment, and humidity is sitting at 97%.
What a weekend! By the title post, you may have deduced that I finally got my garden going! Woo hoo! Almost all of my potato plants have popped up now, thank the Lord. I'm so excited. The cucumber sprouts are doing well, too. One is a Straight Eight variety, and the other is a Lemon variety. I planted a container friendly cuke in an extra pot I had lying around, and it's on the porch. No sprouts yet, though.
Saturday, I scrubbed the shower down really well. Mom doesn't have quite the elbow grease she used to have, and she'd asked me a while ago to do a heavy scrub on the shower. I finally got to it. I wasn't putting it off. I just frankly kept forgetting about it.
After I'd gotten dressed for the day, I decided that it was the perfect day to get my garden plot made. It took me a while. I used a spade to mark out the edges, then I used a hoe to work the soil apart. There was an underground ant hill. I did get one bite on my hand. I left the ants alone because I'd seen somewhere that ants don't like compost. They'll move if the ground has compost on it. I used a rake to smooth things out. I used the cultivator. There were so many garden tools I used. Oh my goodness. In the end, though, I was able to get my plot ready. I put some cow manure on it, sprinkled blood meal and bone meal on it, cultivated all that into the soil, and then I planted seeds. Yep. A row of corn, a row of Mardi Gras green beans, another row of corn, a row of Lima beans, one zucchini, one Baby Butternut squash, one Minnesota Midget cantaloupe, and one Sugar Baby watermelon.
By the time I was finished, it was after 3:00 in the afternoon. I needed to order the pizza, pick it up, and was losing steam fast. I did all that, and by the time I got back, Pop was home. We had pizza and then I rested for a little bit and got back to it. This time, I cleaned up the side porch area, moved the grill from the front porch to the side porch, and then I rearranged the porch so it didn't look as cluttered. We have a lot of plants on the front porch. Two lemon trees, my container cucumber, my little herb garden, and a tomato plant. By the way, there are about 4-5 tomatoes on it now!
It was a long day. I put in a lot of work. I got a nasty sunburn and the wheelbarrow got a flat tire, but the garden is started, and the yard doesn't look at cluttered. It was a good day.
Yesterday, I made ribs in the pressure cooker. Since our broiler doesn't work, I asked Pop to fire up the grill to caramelized the bbq sauce on the ribs. I made homemade macaroni and cheese and made a salad and put chopped apple in it. Apple goes really well with pork. I was concerned that the ribs wouldn't taste good. I've had ribs that are delicious, and I've had ribs that tasted gamey. It's always kind of hit and miss with them. Let me tell ya. That was a good meal. There were no ribs left over. Pop ate them. There's mac and cheese left, but it was a big batch. I wanted extra for tonight. There's some salad left, but it's enough for tonight as well. Pop was over the moon about the ribs, though, and he loaded his plate at least twice with mac and cheese. Mom enjoyed it too. The ribs were good. Not gamey at all. They fell off the bone. We had to put them on some foil and then on the grill so they wouldn't fall through the grate into the fire.
Supper tonight will be another pressure cooker meal. I'm making sloppy joes. So far, this cookbook for the pressure cooker has delivered solid hits. I hope tonight is as delicious as yesterday!
Other items on my agenda today are cleaning Gracie's fountain and laundry.
That's all I have for now, folks. Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends.
