Riding a motorbike is a thrilling activity!

Though it saves time and make commuting faster, you shouldn't avoid the safety aspect, i.e., helmets, especially when you're with kids.

A helmet not only shields you from the elements and keeps you warm, but it also can be the only thing that can save your life. However, you must perform routine maintenance if you want to make sure your child's helmet lasts for a long time.

Here is an easy guide to keeping your kids' motorbike helmets and maintaining them for a long time to come.

1. Remove All Electronics

The first thing you need to do is remove any added electronic equipment, including antennas, microphones, batteries, or Bluetooth communicators from your helmet. Your priceless electrical devices will be harmed if you don't do this. Remove the peak as well if you're washing an ATV or dual-sport helmet.

2. Remove and Clean the Helmet's Interior Lining

If your helmet has a removable liner, as do the majority of helmets today, all you have to do is remove the lining and cheek pads, wash them, and replace them. You may either hand wash them in warm, soapy water or use your washing machine. Instead of drying your pads and liner in the dryer, let them air dry.

If your helmet's liner cannot be removed, you must wash the entire helmet at once. Warm water and baby shampoo should be combined in a tub large enough to fit your helmet. Submerge your helmet for 10-15 minutes to allow the water and soap to permeate the liner.

3. Replacing the Straps

The straps of motorbike helmets are built to endure a lifetime. However, in some circumstances, if the strap is damaged, a new one can be installed in its place. You might need to visit the nearby bike accessory store to complete it, or if you're handy with tools, you could complete it at home. Replace the old helmet strap with the new one by purchasing an automated one from any local motorcycle accessories store. While doing that, check to see if the strap is detachable; if it isn't, it's strongly urged that you contact the authorised helmet store for assistance.

Safety risks exist with helmets that have broken straps. Don't take any chances if the strap has significant damage; buy a new road motorcycle helmet right away.

4. Clean Your Face Shield, Sun Shield, and Vents

Take the time to gently clean down your face shield and sunscreen with a soft cloth because they can easily become clogged with dirt and grime. Avoid using anything abrasive to scrub them because doing so could scratch the visor.

Pin lock shields can easily be broken during cleaning if you're not careful, so if you have one, take extra care to read the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. If the vents on your helmet are clogged, give them a rapid blast of air and a thorough cleaning with a cotton swab.

5. Reassemble Your Helmet

You can assemble the helmet once every component has been thoroughly cleaned. Simply make sure that everything is dry, clean, and wiped down.

Before reassembly, everyone who wants their helmets to shine a little bit more can use a premium polish or wax.

To guarantee proper ventilation, you can also use an air compressor to clear any dust, debris, or insects from the vents.

Conclusion

You'll find that cleaning your helmet goes more quickly than you anticipate, especially if you listen to your favourite music or watch a TV show while you work. When you're done cleaning, your helmet will be spotless.
