OFTEN
So, my daughter and I were in a bookshop yesterday, looking at a book about words in the US which are said differently, depending on where you're from. Often, was one of the words.
In Chicago we drop the "t" and say, ofen. We didn't realize it, until we saw it in print. I'm sure not everyone pronounces it that way, but according to the map in the book, we say it enough to color ILLINOIS green, which means it's how we say the word. LOL
"Cut the grass, mow the lawn, or mow the grass?" Neither one of us have ever heard anyone say, mow the grass. I say cut the grass and she says mow the lawn. Weird. The entire book was a lot of fun, showing us our differences.
It's amazing we can communicate. Oh, and in another book, one I saw awhile ago, "You guys," is definitely a Chicago term.
