Milton Keynes Theatre have announced the winner of its Young Photographer 2022 competition, with 6-year-old Pippa declared the victor.
With more than 130 entries to the 2022 competition, choosing an overall winner was never going to be easy for the panel of judges. The standard of work was impressive with several photographers gaining commendation and special mentions.
The Gallery invited all those shortlisted and a family member to its Sky Room for a special screening of their work and to announce the age group winners, and an overall winner.
After celebrating the age group winners, judges Fionnuala Boyd, Les Evans, and Willie Robb decreed Pippa, aged 6, the overall winner with her photograph of a robin perched on top of a long piece of wood.
As part of her prize, she and her classmates will be given a tour of the Gallery's current photography exhibition, Vivian Maier: Anthology.
Tara Sheldon Producer, Public Programmes (Children & Young People), MK Gallery said: 'Young photographer has been exceedingly popular this year. We've been overwhelmed not only by the number of entries but the standard of them. We held several photography workshops from April to July to support young people who were curious about photography and wanted to enter the competition. And, with a bit of family, and or school support, the entrants produced some fantastic images.
'I'm looking forward to our next project: Young Sculpture 2022 – watch this space.'
The short-listed entries continue to be exhibited in the Project Space until 31 July 2022, and a People's Choice Award remains open for the public to vote for their favourite photograph until then, with the winner announced on Wednesday 3 August 2022.
With 3,415 People's Choice votes already submitted; this award is proving to be hotly
contested. Pop into the Project Space and cast your vote or head online.
