The Western Asian Nation of Turkey. They have been a member of NATO since 1952, and have been a horrific rogue state the entire time. Yet NATO continues to turn a blind eye towards their brutal violence and repression. Western Europe and the United States are total hypocrites to remain close allies with Turkey. Let's talk about this.

Turkey has an awful history and legacy. From 1299-1920 they were the barbaric Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire was a violent Islamic Empire which conquered lots of the Middle East and parts of Southern Europe. The Balkans region of Southern Europe which includes Greece, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia, etc. was conquered and occupied by the Ottoman Turks in the medieval times until the early 20th Century. The Ottoman Turks forced Islam upon the people in the Balkans region of Europe who were mostly Orthodox Christians. Many Greeks and Serbs rebelled against Islamic Conversion.

During World War 1 (1914-1918) the Ottoman Turks engaged in crimes against humanity and genocide. The Turkish carried out the infamous Armenian Genocide and Greek Genocide. These lasted until the early 1920s. The Greeks and Armenians were targeted for their Christian Faith by their Muslim Turkish rulers. An estimated 900,000 Greeks were exterminated by the Turks and 1.5 million Armenians killed. Also in World War 1 the Ottoman Turks fought on the side of the Germans.

World War 1 brought the end of the Ottoman Empire, because the British aided Arab rebels in fighting them. The Movie Lawrence of Arabia is about that.

The end of the Ottoman Empire caused the Turks to lose their territorial control and led to the creation of modern states such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and eventually Israel. It also meant liberation for the countries in Southern Europe like Serbia and Greece. The end of the Ottoman Empire was violent, since genocide was committed by the Turks in the final years of the Ottoman Empire/Caliphate.

Despite this horrible legacy of Turkey, the West decided to invite Turkey to join NATO in 1952. The United States and Western Europe decided Turkey was geographically important in the Mediterranean and how helpful it would be against the Soviet Union. Also Turkey was glad to join NATO since Turkey and Russia have historically been enemies. The West was willing to overlook all the terrible things the Turkish had done. But they were wrong to think Turkey had changed.

Since Turkey joined NATO, here is a list a some of the terrible things Turkey has done. In 1974 Turkey invaded the island of Cyprus and separated the island into Cyprus and Northern Cyprus.

Northern Cyprus is a Turkish Ethno-State only inhabited by Turks and no Greeks are allowed. From 1974-2003 the Turkish enforced the "Green Line" boundary and none of the Greek Cypriots were allowed to cross over into Northern Cyprus.

The Turkish deported the Greeks to the other part of the island.

Also in the 1970s Turkey banned the Kurdish Language and heavily discriminated against their Kurdish Population. This led to an ongoing battle against the Turkish and the Kurds, which escalated since 1978. The Turkish to this day bomb Kurdish People. The Turkish Military violates the borders of Iraq and Syria and bombs the Kurds in those countries too! All these things should be considered war crimes. It also does not reflect the "values" of NATO. Given that NATO intervened in Bosnia in the 1990s to stop genocide, why would they turn a blind eye towards the ethnic violence Turkey commits?

Also Turkey continues to work against Armenia. Not only does Turkey continue to deny the Armenian Genocide, they keep working with Azerbaijan every time a war breaks out between Armenia and Azerbaijan by giving military aid and even volunteers to fight the Armenians.

Since 2003, Turkey has been ruled by despot Recep Erdogan.

Under Erdogan, there are no civil liberties in Turkey. All dissent is punished.

Anyone who criticizes Erdogan or even makes fun of him online is arrested and jailed. There is no media freedom in Turkey. There is little religious freedom in Turkey. Radical hate groups such as the Grey Wolves thrive under Erdogan's rule.

NATO loves having a major partner in the Middle East. They continue tolerating the destructive things Turkey does, and continue selling American Weapons and fighter jets to Turkey. This is pathetic and hypocritical, when NATO countries want to talk about "morals" and their "values" Also it is hypocritical since Turkey also buys weapons from Russia too.

I and many others believe NATO to be obsolete in today's world. NATO should not exist anymore. They do nothing against the genocide that Turkey continues to this day. NATO has no place anymore in thus Post Cold War era. It should have ended just like the Warsaw Pact.
