Remains of the Roman Amphitheatre in Catania, Sicily, September 2021

In the centre of Catania, in Piazza Stesicoro, lurks the remains of the Roman amphitheatre that was built in the Roman Imperial period, probably in the 2nd century AD.

Not much is visible now but there is an entrance with iconic columns topped with an architrave inscribed with AMPHITHEATRVM INSIGNE ("Eminent Amphitheatre").
