Museumsinsel station on U-Bahn line 5, Berlin, August 2021

On July 9 2021, Berlin welcomed station number 175 to the U-Bahn network. And what a sparkling station it is - with a glorious blue sky and 6662 stars. It is the work of Swiss architect, Max Dudler, inspired by the work of the Prussian architect, Karl-Friedrich Schinkel, and the sky that he designed in 1816 for a performance of Mozart's 'The Magic Flute'.

It was the third of three new stations all of which will help the now-returning tourists get to see some of the key sights of Berlin. The two others are Rotes Rathaus and Unter den Linden, but Museums Island is the one to go to if you want to gaze at the stars.
