Today, surrounded by traffic, the Arch echoes the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, with three floors of small exhibits inside detailing its history, including the time it spent as London's smallest police station.
There is also a viewing gallery - the view is almost certainly better if you visit on a sunny day when there aren't any leaves on the trees.
