Young Goethe standing in Naschmarkt Square, Leipzig, Germany, August 2021

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832), German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theatre director, and critic, studied law at Leipzig University from 1765 to 1768. He may not have enjoyed his studies but he liked the city and called it " a little Paris". A sculpture of the young Goethe now stands outside the wonderful baroque former Stock Exchange, heading in the direction of one of his favourite haunts, the Auerbachs Keller.
