Hey Everyone!
I have been back at work post furlough for almost a year now. Furlough, for me feels like a very distant memory. I realize others are still working at home or just starting to go back to work.
The past several months I have been hearing about companies complaining that they have vacancies they can't fill, and some of these places are the same ones I have applied to over the past year, which doesn't make sense to me. If you are in that much of a need of employees then why don't you actually call all the people who apply for the job. Like seriously, a lot of the jobs I have applied to are similar to what I am already doing, just closer to home. Yes, I am still working where I have been at for almost 3 years, even though I am so over driving all the way out to Gresham from where I live for less than 15 hours a week at minimum wage, but it's still a job.
When I hear these companies complain that they can't fill vacancies is that they can't "find" "qualified help". They aren't willing to train someone who doesn't have the exact right experience on paper, which is the same thing I have been hearing for 11 years now.
Yes, I did quit my other job, while it was better on paper, at the end of the day I was beyond exhausted, and I was putting my own health and safety at risk being there, among other things. With everything else I have going on in my life right now, it was better for me to walk away sooner rather than later and look elsewhere while still driving out to my other job.
Going back to school hasn't been an option for me at all, and at this point in my life really isn't something I want to do as it doesn't align with my other goals. If I were still in my 20's and there was a guaranteed job at the end of it, sure, why not. My goals, dreams, and all that have dramatically changed over the past decade.
So with that being said, I am still looking for a better job, and to leave where I am, as the only thing keeping me is is the lack of income to move.
