Today's Bible Reading- Psalm Chapters 62-64 & Romans Chapter 1.
Good morning, my friends. I hope you're well. Happy Saturday to you! It's a nice morning here. The ground is wet with dew, and it's not cold but it's not scorching. I'd say it was in the 70s at the moment.
Our high today is expected to be 92* with a 10% chance of rain. It looks like Sunday will have the same high but with a 50% chance of thunderstorms.
I just finished feeding the cats. Well, they're still eating outside. I just didn't want to remain outdoors with my pjs on. The neighbor's son is outside, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to see some fat chick outside in short shorts that are a Hawaiian print. Yeah. Anyhoo.
I checked on my pumpkin plant this morning. It didn't make it. I guess the squash bugs got one too many nibbles in. Bummer. I was really hoping for some pumpkins this year. It's too late to plant any more. I do have some lettuce and carrots I can plant, though. I may clear the cucumber and zucchini plants out of the garden box, and plant the lettuce and carrots in there.
Speaking of planting and gardening in general, I ordered my seeds for next year! Oh yeah. I went all out. Spent about $85, but I have 20 seed packets coming my way. Out of the 20 seed packets, 6 of them are herbs. Let me see if I can find the list of what I bought.
*humming some music while I search*
Found it! Okay. I have ordered 1 packet each of the following: Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry, Mardi Gras Blend Bush Bean, Little Finger Carrots, Tango Hybrid Celery, Butterfruit Corn, Buttercrunch Lettuce, Clemson Spineless Okra, Candy Hybrid Onion, Green Arrow Peas, Park's Sweet Rainbow Mix Bell Peppers, Big Chief F1 Butternut Squash, Black Beauty Zucchini, Brandywine Tomato, Marzito Tomato, Culinary Blend Basil, Peppermint, Greek Oregano, Italian Plain Leaf Parsley, Sage, and English Thyme.
I know that's a lot, but I can stagger it out. I found some seeds from last year's garden--cantaloupe and watermelon--and I'll probably add those in somewhere. I'd really like to try gardening by the moon phases next year as well. The Mardi Gras beans are your typical bush bean, but they are green, yellow and purple. The colors (almost) of Mardi Gras. If you'd like to check out the site I purchased my seeds from, click here. I just learned of this company last year, but apparently they're one of the oldest seed companies in America.
I tried to buy things that I know we'll eat. My mom isn't a fan of okra at all, but I am. I rarely turn down fried okra. I always turn down stewed okra. Stewed okra is slimy. Blech. Fried okra is where it's at.
Oh! Yesterday, I gave my neighbor our two cat houses. Thelma isn't using them and they were just taking up space on our porch. She was grateful for them, too. A couple of her kittens got their paws singed in the fire. They're already lounging and playing around on the houses. I picked up the blankets that we put down during cold weather, and I washed them up. They're sitting in the dryer in need of another fluff.
Last night's supper was grilled hamburgers. They were so delicious, but I had an adventure getting the grill ready. I took the cover off carefully because I'd seen a rather large arachnid on it a couple of days ago, and I have a phobia of those particular critters. To the point that if I squash one, I have nightmares. I know. I don't know where it came from. I haven't always had that fear. Anyways. I'm glad I took it off carefully because there was a much smaller one that had made a nest on the grill cover. I swept it off with the broom and tried to squash it with the broom, but unfortunately, I only knocked it out for a minute or two. Just long enough for me to realize that this particular critter needed extermination. Typically, if it's a normal house spider, I'll just shoo it away because it eats flies. This one, though, although a fly eater, was a dangerous one. A black widow. Blech. They are very prevalent in our area. I usually check things for them before I pick them up outside, but they can kill you. I tend to enjoy living, so when I find one, if possible, I will kill it. This one was a bit small and more matte black, not the shiny black I've come to recognize, but it was still there with an egg sac. I squashed both and then prayed I wouldn't have nightmares. God heard me, because I didn't. I need to move on from this or I may have nightmares tonight.
Let's talk about flies. We have an infestation of them, and I cannot figure out where they are coming in at! I kid you not, there are probably a good 30 or more of them buzzing around the kitchen and bathroom. I have a few in my room as well. I was coming down the hall this morning, and there were probably 20 just sitting on the walls. I brushed them off with the broom and they didn't even try to fly. They just crawled around everywhere. We've not had a fly infestation this bad since I was a kid. Makes me wonder if my resident spooky is going to be active soon.
When I was a kid and our resident spook was a lot more active, we had large amounts of flies, but they were what I call the decomp flies. The ones that usually show up where there's a dead animal. They could bite. These are just houseflies, but in annoyingly large doses. I don't know. It's weird. They'll be there and then a few minutes later, no flies. Oh well. I can go buy some fly traps. I've already filled one up, and the second one is almost full as well. I may need to buy two or three of them to cover us through the rest of summer. Once the weather cools down, the flies will leave, hopefully.
Well, my friends, my first cup of delicious coffee has worn off, and I need to get ready for the day and have my time with God. I also need some food to cut this caffeine. Wow. That's some strong coffee today. It's good, though. Gracie's already had her share of morning nom noms. She'll probably bum some off of Mom when she wakes up. Today I have no super big plans. I still have some towels to wash and sort for the linen closet, but the closet looks really nice now. Very organized. I even separated the normal towels and washcloths from the kitchen towels and washcloths. All I have now are the seasonal ones to wash and fold.
Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends.
