Vince McMahon has released a statement.
With all six episodes of "Mr. McMahon" set to premiere on Netflix this Wednesday, McMahon posted to X that based on an early cut of the project he's seen, it confuses the Mr. McMahon character he portrayed on WWE television with his true self.
Over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon were filmed for "Mr. McMahon," all of which took place before he resigned from WWE and TKO Group Holdings. McMahon says he doesn't regret taking part but stressed that "a lot has been misrepresented or left out entirely in an effort to leave viewers intentionally confused."
McMahon's statement reads:
I don't regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had an opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, which were equally filled with excitement, drama, fun, and a fair amount of controversy and life lessons. Unfortunately, based on an early partial cut I've seen, this doc falls short and takes the predictable path of conflating the "Mr. McMahon" character with my true self, Vince. The title and promos alone make that evident.
A lot has been misrepresented or left out entirely in an effort to leave viewers intentionally confused. The producers use typical editing tricks with out of context footage and dated soundbites etc. to distort the viewers' perception and support a deceptive narrative.
In an attempt to further their misleading account, the producers use a lawsuit based on an affair I ended as evidence that I am, in fact, "Mr. McMahon".
Janel Grant's attorneys held a press conference last week in anticipation of the docuseries being released on Netflix. While producers reached out to Grant and her team, they ultimately decided not to be interviewed for the project. Her lawyer, Ann Callis, says that Grant deserves to tell her own story, not just be part of someone else's.
"Janel's story is an important one, and we hope Netflix's docuseries does it justice," Callis said (transcriptions via Fightful). "Her experience is integral to an accurate and full re-telling of the story of the WWE and Mr. McMahon. While Janel didn't participate in the Netflix docuseries, we hope it shines a light on the abhorent actions of McMahon, frequently on the WWE property, and it portrays the realities of his abusive and exploitative behavior."
