Following their respective stints in All Elite Wrestling, The Hardy Boyz have now reunited under the umbrella of TNA Wrestling.
In returning to TNA, Matt Hardy was initially aiming to win the TNA World Championship. Upon the arrival of his brother, Jeff, though, the central focus shifted to the TNA Tag Team Championships, which are currently held by Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards of The System. During a new interview with Instinct Culture's own Denise Salcedo, Matt opened up The Hardy Boyz's current plan in TNA, and how it's become further complicated by another former pair of tag champions — Ace Austin and Chris Bey (ABC).
"We have this new journey where myself and Jeff want to have that great one last final tag team run or a great cementing moment where we become one of the greatest tag teams of all time by winning another major tag team title in our fourth decade, by the way," Matt explained. "We won titles in the 90s, we won them in the 2000s, won them in the 2010s, and this would be our first title in the 2020s. So that is what myself and Jeff that are our goal is right now, but I love the fact there's been so much to sink our teeth into in the story."
"There's been like twists and turns and it's still ongoing," Matt continued. "Now we're in a really unique situation because ABC wants a rematch against The System, because they obviously held the titles and they beat them for them, and they had it for a little while. But we beat The System twice; we want a match. So I think there's something brewing here between us, ABC and The System. It's going to be really interesting how it all pans out."
Jeff Hardy Is Having Fun Again
Amidst their ongoing feud with The System, Matt and Jeff Hardy also recently came face-to-face with another notable team in TNA, First Class (AJ Francis & KC Navarro). This faceoff took place at the 2024 TNA Victory Road event, and ultimately yielded a win for The Hardy Boyz. According to Jeff, it also sparked a surge of confidence for him.
"To still be having matches and doing this crap that we grew to love at a very young age, it's just so inspiring in itself," Jeff said. "We had a match with this team called First Class a few weeks ago, and that was a huge confidence booster for me because it was fun again. And the crowd, the energy in the place, the vibe, everything was right. That just made me so excited to have less fear and do what we do out there — remain extreme, innovative, creative, and The Hardys. Just do what we do."
Matt Hardy Applauds TNA Managment For Optimizing The Hardy Boyz
Regarding his present-day TNA experience, Matt Hardy feels that, in comparison to their previous booking elsewhere, TNA Wrestling has effectively utilized The Hardy Boyz in their run.
"We're 32 years deep into this. I feel like we have such a great legacy in pro wrestling. We were able to pop off and get real hot whenever wrestling was hot during the Attitude Era [in WWE]. And we kind of created the ladder match and the table match and the TLC match, all that stuff kind of rolled into one. Myself, Jeff, Edge, Christian and the Dudleys will always kind of be like looked at as the forefathers of those matches, but we were able to innovate so many different things throughout the years," Matt said. "People look at us like a legacy act and they're like, 'Oh my God, I hadn't met the Hardys. I would love to meet them.' And I feel like in TNA, TNA management gets how to optimize the usage of us. They put us in positions to succeed where we highlight our strengths. They use us in the way we should be used, as stars, guys who are like generational legacy performers who can still work on a pretty high level when it's all said and done."
According to Matt, the Hardy Boyz are not consistent five-star match performers, but they can consistently captivate an audience with their storytelling abilities. Furthermore, Matt asserts that The Hardy Boyz can also attract an emotional investment from the audience, if given the proper platform and time to shine like TNA has done.
"That's what I think has been so great about TNA and this ongoing rivalry with The System, with us wanting to procure the TNA World Tag Team titles, I think is really going to pay off big in the very end."
