The police finally went for Sean Combs

Sean Combs has faced at least ten months of allegations of serious sexual nature. And then he had to deal with the leaked video that show violent behaviour on a hotel corridor towards a former girlfriend. Those do not include the FBI raids at two of his properties in Los Angeles and Miami last March. Many watchers of fallen stars wonder when Mr Combs will be indicted. He was finally placed under arrest by federal agents in Manhattan hours ago, according to a flood of news reports. One of Mr Combs lawyers told AFP that the rapper "voluntarily relocated" to New York, in anticipation of the charges that would be filed against him. His legal team told the media that they were "disappointed" with the arrest and was adamant that the embattled star was "an innocent man". This does not attest to the words of many who have not filed complaints against him, but have spoken publicly about Mr Combs's violent tendencies. Or the stories about them.
Mr Combs was not waiting for the Feds to appear at the front door of his room in a mid-town hotel. On the evening of 16 September (Monday), he was strolling with his son, King Combs (who was also accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed in April), TMZ reported. It is not clear what father and child were doing. A grand jury was assembled and the allegations were looked into these past months. The prosecutor is expected to unseal the indictment the day after the arrest. Mr Combs faces a considerable number of lawsuits, including some allegations that were not only serious, but were salacious too. One of them pointed to his raping of an underaged girl and another alleged he tried to groom a record executive and forced him to sexually engage with another fellow. Mr Combs had denied the accusations.
Before these charges of sexual impropriety and assault emerged, Sean Combs was not only a hugely successful music producer and record label head, but also a fashion designer, with his own now largely forgotten label Sean John, and considered to be one of America's best. At the height of his design career, he was in Anna Wintour's good books and was often in Europe, hobnobbing with the news-making designers of the time. In New York, his fashion shows were flashy events and drew both the hip-hop and fashion crowd. It was more likely that his celebrity was the lure than any remarkable, history-defining designs that aroused public interest. Alas, this was not consumer enthusiasm. The lure and the hype of Sean John the label soon fizzled out. Until the allegations first emerged, Sean Combs was hoping to revive his brand. But he was no Pharrell Williams. Definitely not now.
