It is hard to imagine that we are nearing the end of September. As WWE heads towards Bad Blood and AEW heads towards Grand Slam and WrestleDream, let's take a look at five of the biggest moments from the past week. These could include breaking news items, or major moments from this week's television programs.
5. Sheamus re-signs with the WWE
The Celtic Warrior has been one of the most consistent performers for the WWE since he set foot in the company fifteen years ago in 2009. Per Fightful Select, it was confirmed that Sheamus inked a multi-year deal to stay with the company. One can imagine that the singular title that has eluded Sheamus during his career, the WWE Intercontinental Championship, is going to be his before it is all said and done finally.
4. Pure cinema from Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns on SmackDown
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns signed the contract to confirm a major tag team match at Bad Blood against Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa. A unique and tremendous segment aired on this week's SmackDown as Rhodes and Reigns met up in Georgia where both have a lot of history. They agreed to have each other's backs in an amazingly shot segment.
3. Miro asks for his release from AEW
On Friday, Fightful Select revealed that Miro (known as Rusev in the WWE) has asked for his release from AEW. Fightful stated that Miro has only wrestled 11 matches since December of 2021. Though Miro was injured, he's been healthy for some time, and that he and AEW have not been able to get on the same page creatively.
As Rusev, he would get over massively with the fans with his Rusev Day gimmick, and now with Triple H in control of creative, it will be interesting if he happens to jump ship. Tony Khan would have to agree to the release; however, as Miro is under contract until Spring of 2026.
2. Braun Strowman and Bronson Reed completely destroy the arena on RAW
What is turning into one of the more entertaining feuds in pro wrestling today, Braun Strowman and Bronson Reed were set for a match this week on RAW. This comes off the heels of Reed doing an INSANE Tsunami from a wall that was several feet tall onto Strowman who was laying on the roof of a car.
The match on Monday ended in a No Contest as they destroyed everything in their path from the ring to the walls in the arena. It truly felt like a battle you'd see in the Godzilla movies.
1. Dream match possibly setup for next week's AEW Grand Slam
During AEW Dynamite this week, it was officially announced by Tony Khan that a match 20 years in the making will take place this coming Wednesday (hopefully). As long as Bryan Danielson can be cleared by doctors, he will take on Nigel McGuinness (who recently came out of retirement) in a feud that goes way back to the early days of Ring of Honor.
McGuinness made an amazing return to the ring in front of his home country at All In London. It was one of the best moments in professional wrestling this year.
