Be Still . . .

The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,
(Nahum 1:7 (NIV))
What do you do when you face trouble?
If you are not able to answer that question, then you are either oblivious to the sinful world in which we live, or you have not faced real times of trouble yet. Unfortunately, no one makes it through this world without facing times of trouble. It is simply a direct result of the fall from grace in the Garden of Eden. But, take heart, for we have a source of refuge and comfort even in the midst of this sinful, fallen world.
I want you to think back on your early childhood. Do you remember climbing up on the lap of your mother or father when you felt bad? Were they able to take the hurt away, or were they able to offer comfort in the times of hurt? They kissed your boo-boos and wiped away your tears. They offered peace and calm when you were neither peaceful nor calm. You trusted them and they cared for you. They gave us an example of what we can experience when we trust in the Lord.
Did you realize that what some Bible translations call faith, others call trust. Think about that for a moment. You trusted your parents. You had faith that they would care for you. Are faith and trust the same especially when you talk about these types of relationships? Are faith and trust the same thing when you consider your relationship with the Lord?
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
(Hebrews 11:1 (NIV))
Trusting is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see.
(Hebrews 11:1 (CJB))
Do you trust in goodness? Do you trust in a safe refuge? Do you trust in the Lord?
The Lord is both of these and so much more! Unlike so-called worldly goodness, which always comes with a price, and a worldly refuge, which can be overrun, what the Lord provides is far greater than anything that we can comprehend. All that we need to do is place our faith, our trust, in Him.
When we are blessed with good times, trust in Him. When we are under attack from the enemy, trust in Him. When it appears that the whole world is crashing in all around us, trust in Him!
Do you trust in Him?
